On Friday morning, Dominic Dieter, co-host of "Rover's Morning Glory" on WMMS in Cleveland (and syndicated on at least one other station, WZNE in Rochester, New York), suggested that a man "cure" his daughter of being lesbian by having someone "screw (her) straight." But you wouldn't know about if you got your news from Cleveland's mainstream media.
A quick check for any sort of coverage revealed nothing at all in The Plain Dealer or on Cleveland's major television stations. As a journalist by training, the lack of coverage is absolutely disgraceful. The longer this goes without any mainstream coverage, the more likely that Clear Channel and its Cleveland cluster will try to sweep this under the rug. And it's already starting--WMMS' Facebook was full of posts from people demanding that Dieter be fired, but as of this morning, those posts have been scrubbed.
It's not likely that anyone will be able to ignore this for much longer, though. A petition calling for Dieter's firing is at 820 signatures as of 9 am Eastern after being at 32 sigs on Saturday night. Meaning it's just a few away from going viral.
The signal must go out--GLAAD's weaksauce call for a suspension doesn't even begin to suffice. Dieter must be fired. If you haven't already, drop WMMS a line at feedback@wmms.com or contact the FCC Enforcement Bureau at fccinfo@fcc.gov.
